Mr. Panoff is a native of Fairfax, VA, and did his undergraduate work at William and Mary and his graduate degree from Shenandoah University. Additional graduate work has been completed at West Chester University, Villanova University, and Illinois State University. His teachers include Dr. Charles Varner, Tom Willkins, Dr. Scott Nelson, Ted Thayer, Percy Ironmonger, Stephen Millelo, Tony Miello, and Arnold Gabriel. He has been a school teacher of the year twice, been recognized by Disney World for his musical accomplishments, and has been awarded the Shenandoah University Alumni of Excellence award.
Mr. Panoff is in demand as an adjudicator, clinician, and loves helping band programs reach the next level by working with them to define their vision, recruiting, pedagogy, and programming.
Stephen Panoff is currently the band director at Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA. In addition to his tenure at Westfield, Mr. Panoff has led two other storied and accomplished band programs in the state of Virginia during his 32 years as a band director. Westfield High School, Tallwood High School, and Tabb High School were all band programs noted for their excellence in Concert, Marching, Jazz, Colorguard, and Percussion at the local, state, and national level. In addition, all three programs were marked by large student participation, averaging 12-15% of each school's student body. Mr. Panoff's bands have performed at the National Concert Band Festival, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, and most recently, at the Tournament of Roses Parade. His bands regularly earn top honors in concert and marching competitions, and Westfield Has been a Virginia Honor Band in each of Mr. Panoff's years as director.
